The American Academy of Professional Coders (the Academy) was founded in an effort to elevate the standards of medical coding by providing ongoing education, certification, networking, and recognition. Currently, American Academy of Professional Coders (the Academy) has a membership base of nearly 43,000 worldwide. The American Academy of Professional Coders (the Academy) provides education and certification for professional medical coders. The certifications focus on physician practice (CPC) and hospital outpatient facility (CPC-H) coding. While training to become a coder, the student will learn how to receive the highest reimbursement possible for the health care provider by assigning Current Procedural Terminology (CPT®) codes, diagnosis codes (ICD-9-CM), HCPCS coding (supplies and injectables) while focusing on HIPAA, OIG, and Medicare compliance.
