Good News for Doctors at Risk of Legal Trouble
Healthcare
compliance expert signs major deal with the American Medical
Association to publish first ever compliance guide for small
practitioners
Boston, MA – September 8, 2005: Pati Trites,
founder and CEO of Healthcare Compliance Resources, the nation’s
foremost provider of healthcare compliance training, announced today
that she has signed a major deal with the American Medical Association
to author a breakthrough book on healthcare compliance. Scheduled for
release in Spring 2006, the book will be the first medical compliance
resource guide in the world designed exclusively to help solo and small
medical practices comply with healthcare reimbursement, fraud and
abuse, employment, OSHA, CLIA, and HIPAA laws without breaking the
bank.
Trites’ book couldn’t come at a better time. With
medical malpractice lawsuits on the rise, the cost of medical insurance
going through the roof, and a record number of changing rules and
regulations to observe, more and more large medical organizations are
hiring compliance officers or consulting teams to ensure their practice
is in compliance with Medicare, HIPPA and other national healthcare
laws. For hospitals and large group practices, hiring a compliance
officer makes perfect sense - keep the patients safe, avoid penalty,
and prevent financial trouble. But it’s a different story for the solo
and small group medical practices.
Already strapped from
spending record dollars on insurance, most small medical organizations
cannot afford to hire outside help to ensure compliance. So they either
ignore the compliance issues, hoping no one will notice, or they have
an office manager or nurse manager take on the role of compliance
officer, without the requisite knowledge. It’s a recipe for disaster
that could lead many small practices into financial and legal trouble.
By
creating a comprehensive reference guide that gives readers a
step-by-step approach to comply with healthcare laws, Trites’
forthcoming book will enable small medical organizations to practice
healthcare compliance easily, cost-efficiently, and with total
confidence.
Trites on her upcoming book: “The regulatory
environment in healthcare today makes it almost impossible to maintain
healthy business practices. My goal in writing this book is to provide
physicians and their practices with a comprehensive tool with
reasonable and understandable explanations and examples to help them
navigate the complex issues of compliance without having to drain their
bank accounts.”
